Thanks to Kelly for the tickets, we went to see Eason Chan concert。

Tonight was his 9th show at theHK Coliseum。

He broke a new record by holdinga total of 25 sold-out shows (starting from 6th July to 2nd August) in Hong Kong。 Eason opened tonight’s show by making a confession about his form – after 8continuousshows,he wasn’t feeling well。 I was worried how he is going to survive the remaining taxing 16 shows。 Despite suffering slight sore throat and cough, Eason gave his audience an outstanding performance with all his heart and soul。

Simple and plain with nofancy countdown or pyrotechnic, Eason opened his show in the most humbleappearance。 Wearing a plain t-shirt, a pair of jeans and sneakers,he delivered his first song with strong soulful voice。 What an unusual and normal first impression, I thought – that was so unlike Eason (who is nicknamed “King Gaga” of Asia with hisexaggeratedhairdo andquirkystage attires)。 I was too early to park judgement。 As the concert went on, the stage became more dramatic and erratical。 Song after song, more colours and stunning characters flowed onto the stage。 From a plain-white-looking stage at the first minute to a beautiful high-tech-looking setting at the finale, Eason took us on a journey of magical discovery with unexpected anti-gravitatingacts and special laser light projections。

I must confessed that I wasn’t a diehard Eason’s fan (I was more of a Jay Chow’s), I didn’t know most of the songs he performed tonight。 I was looking forward for some of his popular Mandarin hits but there wasn’t any.Despite not knowing the cantonese words in his songs (and there wasn’t any sub-titles on the big screen), I was very moved by his soulful singing。 Eason sang with so much feelings and passion that I felt the emotions in his songs。 This is the magic and power of music。

There was one song when Eason choked and coughed so badly that he dashed off stage to get water。 The live band played on and the audience helped to sing the song。 It was a magical moment to hear everyone singing in the hall while Eason took a break。 Not sure if this was an intended “act” or agenuinefiasco, it was good to see how much Eason’s fans love him。 (Unfortunately, there wasn’t any encore tonight due to his illness。) He will always be their “King of Karaoke (K歌之王)”。

Overall, it is a great show。 With a powerful and soulful vocal like Eason’s, there is no need for dramatic andexaggeratedstage setup.Don’t miss his show if you are in Hong Kong – you won’t regret it!Enjoy the photo and concert video highlights。Hope Eason recovers soon。
